Program Note

Completed February 22, 2009 in Hyde Park, Massachusetts.  From a collection of five motets for lesser feasts, this piece features the text traditionally used during communion of the feast of the Transfiguration.  All works in this set employ a similar form - a chanted response alternates with a homophonic setting of a psalm meditation.  The chant and psalm pairing are taken from the Liber Usualis; the traditional chant is used verbatim, while the psalm setting is in a contemporary harmonic vernacular.  Other titles from this set include Give the King thy judgmentsPater si, Qui meditabitur, and Hoc Corpus.
