Program Note

Completed January 18, 2009 in Hyde Park, Massachusettes.  From a collection of five motets for lesser feasts, this piece features the text traditionally used during communion of the feast of the Epiphany.  All works in this set employ a similar form - a chanted response alternates with a homophonic setting of a psalm meditation.  The chant and psalm pairing were taken from the Liber Usualis; the traditional chant is used verbatim, while the psalm setting is in a contemporary harmonic vernacular.  Other titles from this set include Thou art beautiful above the children of men, Pater si, Qui meditabitur, and Hoc Corpus.

In a review of this piece, The Diapason described it as "Sophisticated music with some surprising harmonies."
