Program Note

 

This tune and text has stuck with me since hearing Leo Nestor's choral setting while a student at the University of Southern Mississippi.  The fervent power of this hymn's devotion and dedication to faith is undeniable. Text and tune are starting points for melodic exploration, with the accompaniment adding punctuation to the text's zeal. Both combine in a forceful and jubilant declaration.
