Program Note

 

This piece was written in memory of my father, Frank B. Pesci, Sr., and for my daughter, who was born three weeks after my father's death.  The text is a traditional prayer that my family would say at the beginning of our road trips. It was something I learned by rote and didn't think much about. With the coinciding of my father's departure and my daughter's arrival, I set this text, with its plea for guardianship in travel, as a dedication to both.

 

Angel of God, my Guardian dear, 

To whom, God's love commits me here, 

Ever this day be at my side

To light, to love, to rule and guide.
