Program Note

Completed on December 31, 2013, this motet was the first piece I completed after our move to Germany.  I wrote it on the beautiful - and beautifully out-of-tune - piano in the little apartment my wife and I had rented on Bachstrasse in Karlsruhe.  The motet was commissioned in honor of Dr. Constance (Connie) Roberts, by her husband, in honor of her years of service as Director of Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  The Roberts family, Westminster, and Hattiesburg are very significant for my wife and me.  While we were attending the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Westminster became my wife's church home, and Connie, an early mentor. My wife refers to Connie's daughters as her sisters, and, when in the South, staying in the Roberts home' is a given.

In addition to being written and performed in honor of Connie's service to Westminster, this piece was also premiered as part of the Mother's Day service in 2014.
