Program Note

Completed October 29, 2007 in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. Another piece in the long line of motets written for, and premiered at, Grace Church, Newton.  This particular motet came in the middle of a stretch of ten pieces written in 2006 and 2007.  This familiar prayer, collected in the 16th century Sarum Primer, is presented in an engaging combination of counterpoint and contemporary harmonic language that mirrors the text's ancient origins, as well as its modern relevance.
